Greens

about

Believe it or not, to me, "Greens" is a type of love song. If you're a cannabis user, you probably already know what I'm talking about. If you're not, you might be wondering, what tf is "greens"?

Well, in cannabis culture, there are a ton of different ways to smoke. Personally, one of my favorite ways is using a pipe/bowl. This method involves grinding up the flower and carefully packing it in the bowl. The first person who takes a hit is the one who "gets greens," the freshest hit of the green flower 🌿

So how is “Greens” a love song? In my experience, my favorite person to smoke with is my partner (you know who). I can typically expect for him to prepare a fresh bowl and offer me the first hit. It's become part of the ritual. For me, this gesture symbolizes love and mutual respect through this shared cannabis ritual. While it's often considered a polite gesture, it's never a requirement. So each time it happens, it feels like a special gesture that reminds me of the love and consideration I consistently get from him. It's just one more way for me to see all of the little ways he thinks about and considers me. That's so important in a relationship and I'm really grateful it's part of mine.

The music behind “Greens” was originally written by Nigel Hall. He came over with a beat in mind and I immediately started writing the lyrics to Greens while he and SammyB worked out an arrangement and got sounds. We recorded the instruments all in 2 days while Nigel was staying with us on one of his LA trips. Once he left, I had a pretty decent outline of the lyrics but when something didn’t feel right, I called Jess Best to help me get my thoughts out in a more clear way. Jess isn’t a smoker so at first she wasn’t sure how to help me finish the lyrics. As soon as I told her my theory about it being a love song, things immediately clicked for her and she knew exactly what I was talking about. One thing became very clear, you don’t have to be a smoker to understand love and respect in a relationship, but it sure can be fun!

GREENS LYRICS

Well no lie
I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night
Feeling tongue tied
And it’s still on my mind (my mind)
But when you come close
I swear it’s like you already know
That I just don’t (just don’t)
Don’t want to be alone
So…

You pack one up and light it just for me
(Just for me)
I love the way you always give me greens
(Give me greens)
You pack one up and light it just for me
(Just for me)
I love the way you always give me greens
(Give me greens)

No you first
You always tell me that’s what I deserve
Can we reverse I wanna do the same
For you baby
Cause you know they say
That it’ll help you take your stress away
So I’m like Dre (ay)
Smoke weed everyday
Hey….

You pack one up and light it just for me
(Just for me)
I love the way you always give me greens
(Give me greens)
You pack one up and light it just for me
(Just for me yeah)
I love the way you always give me greens
(Give me greens)

(Instrumental)

You pack one up and light it just for me
(Just for me)
I love the way you always give me greens
(Give me greens)
You pack one up and light it just for me
(Just for me yea)
I love the way you always give me, give me
(Give me greens)

You pack one up and (I love the way you do these little things)
light it just for me
(Just for me)
I love the way you (to let me know how much you care ‘bout me)
always give me greens
(Give me greens)
You pack one up and (I love the way you do these little things)
light it just for me
(Just for me)
I love the way you (to let me know how much you care ‘bout me)
always give me greens
(Give me greens)

You pack one up and light it just for me
I love the way you always give me greens, give me greens
You pack one up and light it just for me, yeah
I love the way you always think of me
